Ukraine Urges World Not to Seek ‘Lull’ in Russia’s War Instead of Peace

During his address to the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged world leaders to support his 2022 "peace formula," which centers on expelling Russian forces from Ukraine and holding them accountable for war crimes. He criticized alternative peace proposals, particularly those by China and Brazil, describing them as "half-hearted" and prioritizing their own interests over Ukraine's. 

The Chinese-Brazilian plan, which is set to be discussed by 20 UN states, outlines six points, including calls for non-escalation, increased humanitarian aid, preventing nuclear proliferation, and organizing an international peace conference. This plan contrasts with Zelenskyy’s direct approach of seeking a complete Russian withdrawal as a prerequisite for peace. 

Zelenskyy’s UN address came as Russian forces claimed further advances in eastern Ukraine, including seizing the settlements of Gostre and Grigorivka in the Donetsk region.
